Tomatoes were first cultivated in Central America by pre-Mayan people. This juicy Beefsteak tomato produces large half kilo red ribbed fruits that are perfect for burgers, sandwiches, salads and cooking.

Where
In pots or trays of seed-raising mix in a sunny area, but sheltered position.
How Sow
Sow seed 6mm (1/4in) deep, firm down gently and keep moist. Seedlings appear 7-14 days.
Care
Transfer to final growing position when sturdy enough, spacing plants 50cm (20in) apart. Pinch out side shoots fertilise regularly once first trusses have set. Harvest: 14-16 weeks from sowing.

Pizza Americana
Ingredients
Thin Crust Pizza Dough ingredients:- 1 package active dry yeast (2-1/2 teaspoons)
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 cups plain flour Toppings:
- Pizza sauce
- Beefsteak tomato, sliced
- Jalapeno chillies, sliced
- Bacon, cubed and pan fried
- Basil leaves
Instructions
- In a large bowl combine yeast, sugar, salt, water, olive oil, and flour. Cover the bowl with a towel and let stand at room temp for 40 to 50 minutes or until almost doubled in size.
- Turn dough out onto a well floured surface and shape into a ball. Cover and let stand for 20 minutes.
- Roll dough out to a circle. Transfer dough to a lined oven tray. Top as desired.
- Bake in a 250°C for 11 to 14 minutes or until cheese is melted and crust starts to brown.
